We (the Rhein-Neckar chapter of the German Federal Association of Interpreters and Translators, BDÜ) ask all language professionals to join us on International Translation Day 2016 and visualize their contributions in connecting worlds:
Make a speech bubble, write on it how you connect worlds, take a selfie with the bubble above your head and share the picture using the hashtag #iconnectworlds on September 30, 2016 with your friends, with your colleagues, with your clients – with the world!
The role of translators and interpreters in connecting worlds is to open up the whole world to all of us.
Translators and interpreters keep our global village spinning. It is high time that we recognize their important role in business, technology, politics, science and culture. That’s why every year on September 30, we celebrate International Translation Day:
To promote our profession and to display pride in it.
Okay, let’s be honest, did you really celebrate last year’s ITD? And the year before? Uuuh? Well, neither did we. Language professionals are busy people and we are happy if on ITD we manage to send out a few congrats tweets to our colleagues and if we do, we feel a little happy and proud, because it’s our day. But that’s not a celebration!
To celebrate means…
- to do something special or enjoyable for an important event, occasion, holiday, etc.
- to say that (someone or something) is great or important
So, this year, we’ll actually celebrate International Translation Day: We’ll do something special and tell the world that our profession is great and important.
The hashtag #iconnectworlds is inspired by this year’s official theme for the International Translation Day “CONNECTING WORLDS”, as announced by FIT – the International Federation of Translators.
Join us and show your work!
